Prof. Dr. Silke Beck

Since 2022, Silke Beck has been the head of the Chair of Sociology of Science and Technology at TUM. Her research focuses on the interfaces between science and society. She is a pioneer in analysing environmental assessments such as the IPCC. Her research contributes to understanding, building and designing global environmental assessments. Current projects deal with evidence-based policymaking as well as the governance of socio-technical transformations in the field of climate change, Negative Emission Technologies, biodiversity and agriculture as well as digitalisation. After an academic year at Harvard University, Beck worked for 20 years in the field of technology assessment and interdisciplinary environmental research. She was nominated as lead expert for the IPBES assessment of transformative change and received the UFZ transfer prize.

The Hightech Agenda supports Silke Beck in translating her practical experience into advising novel research and building up a network of international scholars at TUM as well as with international research.
